Overview

The Glitches Deck introduces unpredictable, often disruptive effects into the game. Glitches are short-term anomalies that mimic magical errors or environmental chaos. They can shift strategies instantly and create new tactical challenges for all players.

Setup

Shuffle the Glitches Deck and place it face-down in the center of the table. Decide whether you will use time-based triggers, dice rolls, or in-game events to activate Glitches.

Rotation Timing

A new Glitch is revealed every 1-3 full turn rotations. When a new Glitch enters play, the previous one is typically discarded. Some groups choose to keep two Glitches active simultaneously for added complexity.

Trigger-Based Mode

Reveal a new Glitch when specific in-game actions occur. Examples include: when a creature dies, a player loses 5 or more life in a turn, or when a new Plane is revealed. This mode keeps Glitches tied closely to in-game drama. (Agree condtions in advnace)

Dice Roll Mode

At the start of each player's turn, roll a six-sided die. On a result of 5 or 6, reveal a new Glitch. This mode introduces a random but fair chance for disruption.

Glitch Duration

Most Glitches last until the start of the next turn or until replaced. You may mark their duration with a counter, token, or written tracker. Some Glitches may have permanent effects, but this should be indicated clearly on the card.

Stacking Glitches

By default, only one Glitch may be active at a time. If playing with stacking, limit to two simultaneous Glitches. Be cautious - this mode creates intense chaos and can unbalance more structured decks.

Glitch Effects and Resolution

Glitches affect all players equally unless otherwise specified. Some modify core rules (such as draw steps, casting restrictions, or mana generation). Players must resolve effects in order if multiple Glitches trigger at once. (newest first)

Design Tip

Use Glitches to challenge players, level power dynamics, or introduce moments of pure madness. For more control, let the lowest life player decide when a new Glitch is drawn.
